Pungoteague
The Pungoteague residence sits on a peninsula on the eastern shore of Virginia. It draws its influence from the earliest homes of the area, which consisted of a two story volume adjoined to a one story volume. The design takes those same elements, pulls them apart, and recombines them so that each section engages one of the inlets on either side of the peninsula. In this way the house responds to both the physical and historical context in which it is created. The two story private section of the house is characterized by smaller openings while the more public 1 story portion is treated with bands of windows. Roofs are pitched to open the interior of the house to the southern sun.
